Students interested in an Automotive and Logistics Engineering Pathway can do a Gateway Programme through MITO.
Some businesses students have completed a Gateway Programme with, in previous years include Tauranga Diesel services, AB Equipment, Bayride, and Dr Moto.
Students will complete theory work alongside their practical work experience, earning a micro-credential in Automotive Engineering through the M ITO Startup Ignition Programme.
Aviation is one of the most regulated industries in the world. To resume operations safely, airlines and ground handling agents must comply with legal requirements and provide recurrent training to ensure the competence of employees.
NZQA-accredited tertiary training provider JNP Aviation Training (JNPAT) offers a Gateway Programme for Year 11 to 13 students. Learn effective communication and two-way radio use in aviation, baggage handling and preparation for loading on aircraft, and health, safety, and security in aviation. This micro-credential is also available to those already employed in the industry, and is stacked towards:
• New Zealand Certificate in Ground Operations, Ramp Handing (Level 3), and
• New Zealand Certificate in Airport Operations (Levels 4 and 5)
Future Foodies Bakery is a 10-day butchery Gateway Programme in the workplace (Foodstuff Butcheries - Pak N Save, New World, or Four Square).
Students complete theory work (total of 18 Level 3 credits) and a work experience placement. Students are encouraged to apply for employment and/or apprenticeship positions upon completion.
Future Foodies Butchery is a 10-day butchery Gateway Programme in the workplace (Foodstuff Butcheries - Pak N Save, New World, or Four Square).
Students complete theory work (total of 10 Level 3 credits) and a work experience placement. Students are encouraged to apply for employment and/or apprenticeship positions upon completion.
Tauranga Boys' College have an internal Gateway Programme, run through the Hospitality department. Students complete theory work and run a onsite café for the staff called the Caffeine Crew.
This very popular school café earns students credits in Café and Customer Service and Food and Beverage Service.
Students need to be taking Hospitality to complete this programme and will be selected for involvement by the Head of Hospitality - Natasha Peddle.
Māori cultural camps give students hands-on practical experience for achieving Tourism Māori unit standards at Level 3. The experience takes place at the Te Korapa Tuu Marae and Waitomo.
Students complete theory and practical experience, earning 20 Level 3 credits through Service IQ.
Students receive a placement with a participating employer, giving them valuable work and life experience.
They gain Level 3 NCEA credits that can also be used towards a relevant nationally recognised New Zealand Qualification. They’ll be supported all the way by a dedicated Schools Transitions Advisor who works with workplace management to make sure they get an all-round understanding of the sector and gain skills and knowledge from widely used and valued industry unit standards.
Students will be supplied with customised learning resources (where applicable), clear development plans and support from a Schools Transitions Advisor who will keep their school up to date. Students’ work will be assessed by ServiceIQ.

The Torpedo 7, Adventure into Retail Gateway Programme is designed to give students a great opportunity to get hands-on experience. Students get to see what it is like to work in the retail industry and gain valuable work experience in bike mechanics.
Students complete theory work (total of 22 Level 2 credits) and attend a work experience placement at a local Torpedo 7.
